"The stories we tell literally make the world. If you want to change the world, you need to change your story. This truth applies both to individuals and institutions." -- Michael Margolis ------

I underestimated the value of storytelling.

Sales statistics fascinate me. While there are a ton of them out there, I read one today that shocked me:

After a presentation, 63% of attendees remember the stories told. Only 5% remember statistics._ [Dan & Chip Heath]_

I decided to dig around and see what I could find on the topic of using storytelling in sales. One article in particular really caught my attention. It made me think harder about my own sales strategies, the story behind what I sell and how many sales I could have won had I told a good story.

Storytelling is a huge part of our daily lives. We use it while at work, at home, and when meeting new people. It's how we create visions of the future, bring ideas to life, and most importantly, how we get people to buy in.

Ask yourself:

  • Are you using storytelling to help close deals?
  • Are you asking for permission to tell a "story" or are you sharing an experience?
  • How can you use your experience and expertise to close deals by building rapport through storytelling?

This article is a informative read. It gives perspective on how quickly we can change someone's mind with a great story!

Besides, who doesn't love a good story?
